Iranian American journalist Masih Alinejad called out New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Saturday for his reaction to the US and Israeli attacks on Iran.
“To you Zohran Mamdani! You remained silent when we faced massacre, when Islamic Republic assassins were sent to New York to kill us, now remain silent! Stop lecturing us Iranians about peace,” Alinejad wrote to X. “I don’t feel safe in New York listening to someone like you, Mamdani, who sympathizes with the regime that killed more than 30,000 unarmed Iranians in less than 24 hours.”
Mamdani opposed the strikes in a statement on social media on Saturday.
“Today’s military strikes on Iran by the United States and Israel mark a catastrophic escalation in the illegal war of aggression. Bombing cities. Killing civilians. Opening a new battlefield. Americans don’t want that. They don’t want another war in pursuit of regime change. They want relief from the economic crisis. They want peace.”

Referring to Mamdani’s words about “security” in the city, Alinejad said that “security without justice” means nothing.
Alinejad continued: “The Iranian people want to be free. Where were you when they needed solidarity? New York belongs to those who stand against terrorism, not to those who excuse it.”
Alinejad was the target of Iran’s assassination plan in 2024 because he criticized the Iranian regime.

The Iranian American journalist spoke to CNN’s Dana Bash on Sunday alongside Moj Mahdara, Iranian American entrepreneur and co-founder of the Iranian Diaspora Collective.
Talking about mixed reactions from party members, Mahdara said Democrats need to overcome their discontent with President Donald Trump.
“I think it is imperative for the Democratic Party to wake up and get over their hatred. Donald TrumpPresident Trump and his feelings about ongoing international conflicts. This is about national security. It’s about what’s possible Middle East. “This is about being a good neighbor, a good partner to the Gulf countries and what their wants are,” he said.
