Massive accidental blast at Nowgam police station, several injured

A massive explosion took place at Nowgam police station in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday night.
Eight personnel were injured in a major accident at Nowgam police station in Srinagar late on Friday night, an official told PTI.
The powerful explosion was heard 30 kilometers away. After the explosion, the police station and many nearby vehicles caught fire. Several ambulances and fire trucks arrived at the scene just before midnight.
The explosion occurred while police were taking samples of several explosives seized in the latest ‘white collar’ terror module case.
Officials told PTI that the material was transported from Faridabad, Haryana and was part of 360 kg of explosive chemicals seized from the rented house of arrested doctor Muzammil Ganaie.
Nowgam police station is leading the investigation that helped police track down Jaish-e-Mohammad’s interstate terror module last week. Three doctors were arrested from Faridabad in Haryana and Saharahpur in Uttar Pradesh, but a fourth man, Umar Nabi, escaped. He carried out the Red Fort explosion.
The police station was activated after posters of Jaish-e-Muhammad were found in the area. Police initially thought it was a minor problem, but the incident dragged them miles away from the Rift and exposed the module.
Police seized more than 350 kg of ammonium nitrate during raids on accused doctors. This was part of approximately 2,900 kg of suspected explosives. This includes potash, phosphorus, reagents, flammable materials, electronic circuits, batteries, wires, remote controls, timers, and metal sheets.
