Max Chandler-Mather on what went wrong for the Greens in 2025

Max Chandler-Mather remains fervently optimistic despite everything.

Former Griffith MP, currently Executive Director Green InstituteHe still believes the Greens can replace Labor as Australia’s dominant left-wing party, arguing that the ALP has become “a representative of the political and institutional order”.

Despite losing her seat in the party’s liquidation in 2025, Chandler-Mather believes the Greens’ economic message is strong, as long as they “can articulate it and be direct and clear about it” and plans to be part of the Greens’ mission to lead the official think tank.
