Brett Daniel Taylor, 53, hit with nine additional charges in alleged Gold Coast euthanasia ring

A man accused of selling veterinary euthanasia drugs to people seeking to end their lives has been sentenced on a further nine charges, including assisting in the death of a man on the Gold Coast last year.
Brett Daniel Taylor, 53, is accused of running an illegal end-of-life business, a fake euthanasia charity for beached whales.
Police claimed he instead sold the drugs to people who wanted to end their lives.
In September this year, Detective Inspector Mark Mooney said detectives were investigating “a number of further deaths dating back to 2021”.
Police launched an investigation in July following the death of a 43-year-old man from Hope Island on April 11 this year.
Mr Taylor was later charged with two counts of assisting suicide and one count each of dealing in dangerous drugs, possession of dangerous drugs and receiving or possessing property resulting from trafficking or supply.

Following a thorough investigation, police laid a further nine charges against Mr Taylor.
He was charged with aiding suicide in the death of a 75-year-old man in Ashmore on Jan. 9, 2024.
Mr Taylor was also charged with four counts of supplying dangerous drugs, including allegedly selling drugs at meetings in Maroochydore on September 10 and Nerang on February 19.
Police also charged him with three counts of fraud, including falsely claiming to be a qualified attorney and charging unauthorized fees for estate planning and end-of-life services.
He was also charged with conversion of funds under the Recovery Act in connection with the alleged misuse of donated charity funds for personal expenses.
He will appear at Southport Magistrates’ Court on December 2.

In addition to Mr. Taylor’s charges, an 80-year-old man was also charged with possession and trafficking of dangerous drugs.
An 81-year-old woman was also charged with attempting to assist suicide, trafficking in dangerous drugs, possession of dangerous drugs and selling potentially harmful items.
