Second lady Usha Vance announces she is pregnant with fourth child

Usha Vance, wife of Vice President JD Vance, announced that she is pregnant with her fourth child.

In a post on X, the second lady said she was looking forward to giving birth to a boy in late July.

“Usha and the baby are in good condition,” read the statement posted to the second woman’s social media account on Tuesday.

Vance and his wife, Usha, 40, have three young children: Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel.

Usha Vance (née Chilukuri) was born and raised in the working-class suburbs of San Diego, California, to a mechanical engineer father and a molecular biologist mother who moved to the United States from Andhra Pradesh, India.

She met J.D. Vance in 2010, when, as a student at Yale Law School, they participated in a discussion group on the topic of “social decline in white America.”

Before becoming second lady, Usha Vance had a legal career that included work as a corporate litigation attorney at the San Francisco firm of Munger, Tolles & Olson. He also worked for conservative justices on the Supreme Court, Chief Justice John Roberts and appellate court judge Brett Kavanaugh, before being appointed to the Supreme Court by Trump.

Although Usha Vance was the first to have a baby as a second lady, other First Ladies have had children while their husbands were in office.

First Lady Frances Cleveland, wife of President Grover Cleveland, gave birth to her daughter Esther at the White House in 1893, followed by her second child, Marion, who was born outside the White House.

J.D. Vance has been one of the most vocal members of the Trump administration calling for higher birth rates in the United States.

“Let me put it very simply: I want more babies in the United States,” he said in 2025.
