Meghan Markle posts romantic dancing video with Prince Harry, 2016 throwback

Meghan Markle shared a romantic new video of herself with husband Prince Harry, along with a throwback photo of the two from 2016 as they celebrated their nearly decade-long love.

On Saturday, the 44-year-old Duchess of Sussex joined the viral “2026 is the new 2016” trend, in which social media users celebrate the new year with nostalgic photos from a decade ago.

Markle posted a black-and-white video from this year in which she is seen dancing on the grass with Harry, 41; There was also a photo of the couple that appeared to have been taken during their 2016 trip to Botswana, Africa, just a few weeks after they first met.

“When 2026 felt just like 2016… you had to be there,” Markle wrote in the caption, referencing their four-year-old daughter Princess Lilibet, who shot the video.

In the clip, Markle wore loose shorts and a short-sleeved white shirt, while Harry wore trousers and a T-shirt.

The former “Suits” actress was seen dancing towards Harry in a large grassy area before the couple embraced and kissed. The couple then began dancing with each other, with Harry pushing his wife backwards at one point.

The video, set to Olivia Dean’s 2025 song “So Easy (To Fall in Love),” ended with Harry lifting Markle up and wrapping her legs around his waist.

The second slide on Markle’s carousel featured an old photo of the couple laughing as they embraced while standing knee-deep in what appeared to be a puddle in the savannah.

In a November 2017 interview with the BBC, Harry and Markle recalled meeting for the first time after a mutual friend set them up on a blind date in London in early July 2016.

The two had an instant connection and quickly followed up their first meeting with two dates in quick succession. A few weeks later, Harry recalled, he asked Markle to accompany him on a camping trip to Botswana.

“I think after three, maybe four weeks I managed to convince him to come and join me in Botswana,” he said, via People magazine. “And we – we camped out with each other under the stars, spent time – and he came and joined me there for five days, which was absolutely amazing.”

“Just take time to go on long country walks and just talk,” Markle added.

Harry noted that it didn’t take him long to realize it was Markle.

“I fell in love with Meghan incredibly quickly; it was a testament to me that all the stars were aligned,” he said. “This beautiful woman literally tripped and fell into my life.”

In November 2016, Harry released an official statement confirming their relationship and pleading for their romance to be diverted from negative press.

Speaking to the BBC, Markle stated that the two had been enjoying their relationship for a few months before it became public. At the time, USA Network was filming its TV show “Suits” in Toronto, Canada, while Harry was living in London.

“We had a good five or six months almost exclusively in privacy, which was amazing,” he said. “I think we’ve had a lot of time to really just connect, and even though we’re obviously in a long-distance relationship, we haven’t seen each other for more than two weeks. So we’ve made it work.”

Markle first addressed her romance with Harry publicly while appearing on the cover of Vanity Fair’s October 2017 issue.

“We are a couple,” she told the outlet. “We are in love. I’m sure there will come a time when we have to step up and introduce ourselves and have stories to tell, but hopefully people will understand that this is our time.”

The two announced their engagement in November 2017 and got married in May 2018. Harry and Meghan welcomed their first child, son Prince Archie, now 6, in May 2019.

Harry and Markle sent shockwaves around the world when they announced they were stepping down from their roles as senior royals in January 2020. In August 2020, the couple moved into a $14 million mansion in Montecito, California, where they continue to live with Archie and Lilibet, whom they welcomed in June 2021.
