Winter Olympics 2026: GB curlers sweep aside Germany to edge closer to semis

Adele Nicoll made history by becoming the first British woman to compete in the monobob event at the Olympics and sits 13th at the midway point of the Cortina glide course.

The 29-year-old player was 1.71 seconds behind German Laura Nolte, who took first place with a time of 2:00:83 in both heats.

Nicoll is unlikely to have trouble with medals but a top-10 finish would likely mean a successful Games for the Welsh slider, who is a traveling reserve for the Beijing 2022 Games but will also compete in the two women’s events in Milan-Cortina.

“I was more nervous than I thought I would be on the first run and felt a bit like jelly,” he said.

“Seeing the Milan-Cortina Olympic rings was really surreal and emotional. These were all first experiences, I just wanted to make myself proud.”

Nicoll is also a three-time British shot put champion and is aiming to qualify for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this summer.

Meanwhile, Mica Moore, who represented Team GB four years ago but has since opted to race for Jamaica, sits 15th in 2:00:98 ahead of Monday’s medal-determining heats.
