Melbourne cafe sprayed with bullets in alleged drive-by shooting

Charges have been laid after a Melbourne cafe was riddled with bullets during an alleged drive-by shooting.
Police allege multiple shots were fired at Andy’s Cafe on Mount Alexander Road in North Essendon at around 2.45am on Friday.
A police helicopter pursued the Toyota Kluger, which fled the scene via Keilor and Taylors Lakes.

The car was located on Mahon Court and Kluger’s occupants were seen entering a property on the Old Calder Highway where they were arrested without incident. Police claimed the car was stolen on May 15.

The men, aged 18 and 20, both from Keilor Downs, were charged with a number of offenses including using a firearm in public, criminal damage and car theft.
They will appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.
Cafe owner Raymond Yacoub said the incident was a terrible disaster and he did not know why his cafe was targeted.
“I’ve never had any problems with customers or anyone and all of a sudden this happened,” he told the ABC.
