Messi in Tears After Argentina’s FIFA World Cup Final Loss To Spain

Football legend Lionel Messi burst into tears after Argentina lost to Spain in extra time in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final on Monday.
Argentina lost 1-0 to Spain after extra time and could not defend their world championship.
Messi, who likely played his last FIFA World Cup in Argentine colours, became visibly emotional after the final whistle as his dream of finishing his World Cup career with another title came to an end.
Substitute Ferran Torres scored in the second period of extra time against a 10-man Argentine team to secure Spain’s victory and ensure La Roja’s second FIFA World Cup title.
The 39-year-old Argentinian captain finished the tournament with 8 goals and 4 assists. With the defeat, Messi lost two of the three FIFA World Cup finals he played and lost the 2014 final against Germany.
