Met Office names UK areas to get snow before Monday | Weather | News

Brits should prepare for cold weather as Met Office forecasts show parts of the UK will experience snowfall before Monday. The weather agency’s maps show that snowfall is expected in the regions over the next few days. Starting tomorrow (February 27), the Atlantic system will come into play and snow and rain will fall across the country. The map shows snow accumulating at between 0.5 and 4mm per hour, circulating across Scotland, particularly the Highlands, and continuing to move westwards throughout the day.

Most of the snow would have cleared by early evening, but by around 10pm weather maps showed a white patch in Edinburgh and a developing area in the Scottish Borders.

The following day, snow will appear in East Ayrshire, then continue to develop south and across northern England, moving down the Scottish border and into Cumbria.

While the snow is expected to reach England on Saturday, February 28, it will also spread to parts of Scotland, including South Lanarkshire and Glasgow.

Snow will develop in Preston, Manchester and Stoke-on-Trent as the day progresses, but will clear quickly. But as the huge area covering the western Highlands showed on Saturday evening, a large band of snow will arrive before it turns to rain, continuing to move westwards until Sunday morning.

Title:

Rain in England and Wales. Intermittent showers elsewhere. Light.

Tonight and Tonight:

Central and southern parts of England and Wales will remain cloudy and rain will continue this evening and overnight. Elsewhere, clear skies will be seen, but northern and northwestern parts will experience heavy showers. Mild and frost-free for everyone.

Friday:

Central and southern England and Wales will continue to experience bursts of rain, heaviest in the west, on Friday. Elsewhere it is brighter with some showers. Light, mostly light winds.

Outlook from Saturday to Monday:

Rain and snow clear from the hills to the east on Saturday. Otherwise, it will be slightly sunny and showers will come from the west. Windy and light rain on Sunday, then brighter and showery on Monday.
