Two simple diet rules supercharged my Mounjaro weight loss after the jabs stopped working: I plateaued after dropping six dress sizes… with these changes, I reached my goal

Two years ago, Louise Peachman felt trapped in her own body.

Tipping the scales at 101.5kg (223.7lbs), it was a daily challenge for the size 20 mother of four, who struggled with simple tasks like tying her shoelaces.

Louise followed all the standard advice: eat less, move more, be patient. But she was never able to regain the baby weight she gained after four consecutive pregnancies.

‘I’ve tried every diet under the sun; Weight Watchers, Lite N Easy, Lady Shake, keto. I tried at least 15 different options but nothing worked,” the 37-year-old wedding celebrant told the Daily Mail.

‘I had a hard time sticking with it, I didn’t really like it and I found that nothing fit my busy lifestyle. The diet wouldn’t last more than a few weeks, maybe a month.

‘Every weight I lost was coming back and I was back where I started; All that hard work was in vain.’

Louise had difficulty with portion control and often resorted to convenience foods when she was too tired to cook. While he went for a long walk every morning, it wasn’t even enough to eliminate his bad eating habits.

‘I was obsessed with food and wanted to eat every chance I got. I ate too much, several times a day. “I had really bad eating habits,” he explained.

Even climbing stairs or standing on your feet for long periods of time was challenging.

‘One of the biggest things I noticed was that after standing for five hours a day at work, my feet were swollen from carrying all the weight,’ she said.

‘The next day I would be a zombie and completely exhausted. Like a hangover, without even drinking.’

Louise, from New South Wales, Australia, struggled for eight years to shed unwanted weight but never managed to drop below 80 kilograms (176 lbs).

Then, after talking to her doctor in late 2023, Louise decided to try weight loss injections and was prescribed Mounjaro.

Although the drug promised to silence ‘food noise’ and curb hunger, Louise initially found it didn’t work.

He actually gained weight on the lowest dose, and it wasn’t until his doctor gave him a higher dose that the weight started to come off.

Within four months Louise lost 12 kilos (26 lbs).

When Louise's weight loss stalled on Mounjaro, she adopted the carnivore diet, limiting herself to just one meat-based meal a day.

But then the weight loss stopped. For weeks the scales refused to budge. ‘I quickly learned that medication alone would not work. “I needed to make some changes too,” he said.

But while many patients on weight-loss medications combine calorie tracking and accelerated exercise, Louise took a more radical approach.

Shortly after his weight began to drop, he attended a wedding where he overheard a waiter asking the man next to him about his nutritional requirements. His answer caught his attention.

‘I’m on a carnivore diet,’ he said.

Louise was intrigued; he had never heard of this before. She later researched and discovered that this meant eating only animal products like meat, fish, eggs, and some dairy.

No vegetables, no carbs. Just protein.

Louise decided to try this approach and added an extra rule of her own.

‘What helped me succeed was simplifying everything. “I switched to a carnivore-style approach, eating only protein and reducing my eating window to a single main meal in the early evening, around 5pm,” he said.

‘Eliminating carbohydrates and eating consistently helped stabilize my blood sugar, reduce inflammation and reduce food-related mental noise.’

Although this drastic adjustment was difficult at first, Louise quickly discovered that if she drank coffee with three sugars between 10 and 11 a.m., it would get her through until dinner.

Louise limited herself to animal products five days a week. A typical meal consists of 400g-500g of meat such as steak, chicken breast or lamb chops and a few eggs.

He took a more relaxed approach, including non-carnivore treats on the other two days of the week.

‘I made a promise to myself that I would follow this diet pretty strictly, but I wasn’t going to let it control my life. “So if I’m at a wedding or event, I eat whatever I want,” she said.

This diet, combined with following the prescribing doctor’s dosage instructions, helped him break through his plateau and accelerated his weight loss.

What is the carnivore diet?

The carnivore diet is an extreme elimination diet that consists only of animal products such as meat, fish, eggs, and some dairy products and excludes all plant-based foods (fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, seeds, nuts), resulting in almost zero carbohydrate intake.

This often results in ketosis (a metabolic state in which your body switches from using glucose (sugar) to using fat as its primary energy source), which advocates say has weight loss and anti-inflammatory benefits.

However, risks include nutrient deficiencies (such as fiber, vitamin C), high saturated fat intake, and potentially high LDL cholesterol; This raises concerns about heart health and long-term sustainability.

Currently scientific evidence is limited and largely anecdotal. In addition to being extremely restrictive, this diet can be potentially unhealthy in the long run.

Consult a doctor or dietitian before starting.

Louise dropped a further 19 kg (42 lbs) over seven months, eventually reaching a weight of 70.6 kg (156 lbs) by the end of July 2024.

A common concern with the carnivore diet is the lack of intake of nutrients such as fiber and vitamin C.

However, Louise says she does not have any health problems and that her morning coffee has a laxative effect.

‘I didn’t add supplements or extreme exercises. “In fact, overtraining was one of the biggest contributors to my plateau,” he said.

‘When I prioritized recovery, hydration and low-stress movements like walking over strenuous gym sessions, my body finally started to respond again.’

She also noticed that when she ate carbs for dinner, she woke up feeling hungry. This wasn’t the case when he stuck to protein.

By last November, Louise had reached 66.5 kg (147 lbs), bringing her total weight loss to 35 kg (77 lbs). It’s now a size 8, meaning the dress has gone down a size six.

Although her rapid weight loss has left her with some saggy skin, Louise says she looks and feels ‘great’.

‘I can go to the shops and buy the clothes I want, whereas before I could never do this and was shy about my chubby arms,’ she said.

‘As a celebrant I have over 65 dresses for couples to choose from for me to wear on their wedding day and I feel comfortable in all of them.

‘For the first time in my life I can leave my arms exposed without being covered.’

As for Mounjaro, Louise now only injects once a month as a ‘booster’ and says it helps block out the ‘food noise’.

However, since consistent taking of GLP-1 medications is recommended, you should always check with your doctor to see what is right for you.

After years of yo-yo dieting and first-hand experience, Louise’s advice is simple.

‘Find your motivation, otherwise you won’t get anywhere. “You can’t be successful without motivation or a ‘why’,” he said.

‘Even if you try the GLP-1 drug, you need to make an effort.

‘I now feel and look great, present myself well and feel good in my own skin. I’ve never done it before.

‘When I look at old photos I looked like an elephant and was really unhappy. Even now it’s hard to see how I used to present myself. ‘I was still well-dressed, but much larger.’
