Underground mine explosion kills two people at Cobar in far western NSW | Mining

Two people were killed in an explosion at an underground mine in western New South Wales on Wednesday morning.

Police said emergency services were called to the mine, on the Endeavor Mine Road at Cobar, about 450 kilometers east of Broken Hill, at around 3.45am after being told two people had been seriously injured in a workplace incident.

On arrival they were told a man had been confirmed dead after the underground explosion, NSW police said. Two women were brought to the surface of the mine, but one of them later died.

The second woman was airlifted to the hospital for hearing loss and shock, police said. Emergency services remained at the scene on Wednesday morning.

Police were expected to assist with the SafeWork NSW investigation into the incident.
