Mexico’s most wanted drug lord ‘El Mencho’ killed in military operation | World News

Mexico’s defense ministry announced that Mexico’s most wanted drug lord Nemesio Rubn Oseguera Cervantes, the famous cartel leader nicknamed “El Mencho”, was killed in a military operation in Mexico.

The fugitive drug trafficker was seriously injured during a military raid in the western state of Jalisco, according to the ministry. It was also stated that El Mencho died during the air transfer to Mexico City.

The Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), a criminal organization led by El Mencho, has grown over the past decade to become the most dominant organized crime syndicate in Mexico and has also established itself as a major supplier of illegal drugs to the United States.

Oseguera’s death triggered large-scale violence in several Mexican states, including Jalisco, where vehicles were set on fire and gunmen blocked highways.

Such strategies are widely used by cartels in Mexico to disrupt military operations.

Videos widely circulated on social media showed panicked passengers running through the airport in the state capital as thick clouds of smoke rose over the tourist city of Puerto Vallarta.

Burning vehicles were used to block major roads in Guadalajara.

Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro urged residents to stay home until authorities can get the situation under control.

This military operation by the Mexican government comes at a time when the country is facing intense pressure from US President Donald Trump’s administration to increase its crackdown on drug trafficking.
