Michelle Pfeiffer’s decision to join Taylor Sheridan’s new series “The Madison” was not an easy one.

The Hollywood legend shared how his “battle” for an unscripted conversation with the famous director finally paid off.

Appearing on the “Today” show on Friday, host Willie Geist said: “I understand this role was a bit of a surprise. He called you up and said, ‘I’ve actually designed a show around you, are you in?’ What did you say?”

“I said, ‘Great, I’d love to read something,’” Pfeiffer replied.

But Sheridan, known for shooting talent without a script, threw Pfeiffer for a loop by saying, “I like to cast first, then I write,” and there was a twist on that.

Pfeiffer wasn’t immediately sold on the idea. “We went back and forth like that for a few weeks,” he admitted.

“Then I realized I wasn’t going to win this fight and I took a leap of faith. Obviously he has a great track record.”

Sheridan’s success in the genre, and particularly his impressive track record on “Yellowstone,” eventually convinced him to take the plunge.

“He talked to me…gave me the broad scope of the character and what it was. [the] the trip was for this family… I was really interested in that,” he explained.

“It’s so boring doing a TV show and being away for months, but you know, I can do it now.”

It wasn’t just Sheridan’s reputation that sealed the deal; Pfeiffer called her actress friend Helen Mirren, who starred in “1883,” “Yellowstone’s” prequel, for advice.

Pfeiffer explained: “I don’t know Helen, but from what I’ve seen and heard, she’s kind of a ‘take no prisoners’ kind of person. I thought she would be really honest with me, like, ‘Run,’ or you know… and she was basically like, ‘run and do it.'”
