Iran funeral performer issues Trump threat as crowd chant ‘Death to America’ | US | News

The artist’s outburst represents the first direct call for Mr. Trump’s death from a figure at the funeral who had seen posters and graffiti calling for the death of both the US President and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

All of this is unfolding as Tehran continues negotiations with Washington on a permanent end to the conflict that has severely disrupted global energy supplies.

Poet Muhammad Rasouli “Death to America!” made the calls. and “Death to Israel!” from the gathered mourners.

Addressing the crowd, he loudly cheered, referring to Mr Trump: “Why is the most bastard man in the world still alive?”

Sunday’s ceremony attracted a much larger crowd than the previous day’s ceremony.

Mourners dressed in black marched towards the site, carrying banners and flags honoring Mr Khamenei, while also demanding Mr Trump’s death during a speech in Washington marking the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.

“We’ve had tremendous success,” Mr. Trump said of the American military. “You look at Venezuela, you look at Iran. We destroyed that place, we destroyed their army.”

The funeral of Mr. Khamenei, who ruled Iran for decades before he was killed at age 86 in an airstrike on Feb. 28 in the beginning stages of the Iranian conflict, could provide a significant boost for the country’s theocracy and his son, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, its new supreme leader.

While the concern that Israel may launch a new attack continues, Iran’s attempt to use its control over the Strait of Hormuz in negotiations with the United States for a permanent conclusion to the conflict shows that this situation is of vital importance.

The funeral was postponed as clashes continued and negotiations were suspended until the hostilities ended.
