Millions in southeastern Australia to be hit with ‘unseasonal’ warm spell over coming days

After experiencing the country’s coldest nights, millions of Australians in two major cities are about to experience “unseasonable” autumn weather in the coming days.

From Tuesday, Adelaide, Melbourne and parts of the south-east of the country will experience warm, sunny days with temperatures ranging from the mid to high 20s, according to Weatherzone.

The hot weather is expected to ease into Hobart; It is expected to reach a maximum of 25°C on Friday, approximately 8°C above the April average.

Meteorologist Anthony Sharwood said unusual autumn warmth on the south coast was helped by low air over Tasmania drifting eastwards towards New Zealand, pushing cold southern areas towards the NSW coastline.

On the other side of the country, cold weather in Western Australia brought downpours and caused temperatures to drop, but northerly winds circulating in the central highlands were driving warm air southwards from central Australia.

“Hot weather can be expected to be accompanied by dry conditions for the remainder of the working week in most of the areas mentioned,” Mr Sharwood said.

The bureau is forecasting dry and sunny conditions across much of the country on Wednesday, but light rain could be felt for miles along the Queensland coastline between the Whitsundays and Surfers Paradise, with more rain felt in the tropical north.

BOM is forecasting cooler conditions across NSW, with cloud cover from Wollongong to Tweed Heads and some rain from the Mid North Coast to the Northern Rivers. Temperatures will hover in the low to mid-20s.

Meteorologist Angus Hines said conditions would be cooler across NSW, with cloud cover from Wollongong to Tweed Heads and some rain from the Mid North Coast to the Northern Rivers.

Temperatures will hover in the low to mid-20s.

Above-average temperatures in Victoria and Tasmania will bring warmer nights and days for this time of year, but Mr Hines warned rain was expected to fall on Tasmania’s west coast on Wednesday afternoon and could lash the rest of the state.

Warm conditions in South Australia will see temperatures climb into the high 20s and low 30s across the state.

“It will definitely be sunny and bright everywhere,” Mr. Hines said.

Western Australia will also enjoy a sunny and calm day ahead of another cold wave hitting the south-west on Thursday.

It will be dry in the Top End on Wednesday, but Mr Hines warned more moisture, showers and storms were possible.

“We could see some wet weather for the Top End and some late-season rainfall, but that’s really limited to the far north,” he said.

“Everyone south of Katherine or Kununurra should be dry and sunny.”
