Visakhapatnam Collector sets June 30 deadline for Bhogapuram airport roads

Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in Bhogapuram is expected to open in the first week of July and the district administration has expedited connectivity and supporting infrastructure work ahead of the opening. The airport is expected to improve air connectivity and boost economic activity in northern Andhra Pradesh.
Visakhapatnam Collector M. Abhishikth Kishore on Wednesday (May 28, 2026) directed officials of various departments to expedite work on road connectivity to the airport and complete them by June 30.
Evaluating the progress in airport connection roads and VMRDA land pool works at the collection meeting, Kishore said that all departments should work in a coordinated manner and the works should be completed quickly. He reviewed the condition of seven major roads connecting Visakhapatnam city to the airport and asked the authorities to improve other connecting roads as well.
The Collector told the officials to complete road construction, installation of signboards and street lights, development of bus terminus and charging points without delay. He also suggested holding discussions with Rapido, Uber and Ola representatives to arrange transportation services to the airport.
He said review meetings would be held every week and asked officials to report unresolved issues to him or coordinate with senior officials to resolve them.
Mr. Kishore also directed VMRDA officials to expedite land pooling and layout development work and ensure basic infrastructure in layout plans.
VMRDA Commissioner Tej Bharat, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg and officials of R&B, RTC and APEPDCL attended the meeting.
