Moment violent shoplifter gets taste of instant karma as passing martial arts beginner takes him down after he attacked Co-op worker

This is the moment an alleged shoplifter was dramatically taken down by a martial arts beginner after attacking a store worker.

Footage taken outside a Co-op store in Swansea shows a man dressed in a gray tracksuit fighting with one of the store’s staff.

He then appears to challenge the worker who tries to stop the suspect from leaving.

The dramatic scenes seem to calm down and the thief looks as if he’s about to leave on an e-bike.

However, the fight flares up again when the thief throws an object at the staff and a passerby intervenes.

He quickly brings the chaos under control when a passerby who studies martial arts tackles him to the ground.

Thinking quickly, the man uses Jiu-Jitsu techniques to knock out the thief before strangling him.

He then pins her to the ground and restrains her until authorities arrive.

The striking tackle was later revealed to be the work of a rookie member of SJA Martial Arts who still only held his white belt.

A spokesman for the club said: ‘Seven months into his journey, one of our white belts was exposed to a real-world situation outside a Co-op in Swansea.

‘There was an aggressive thief. Everyone was trying to ease the situation.

‘One of our white belts stepped in. No strikes, no panic, no chaos. Just control, composure and technique.

He took the man down by choke and back control, then got on mount.

‘He was talking to her and had full control while he waited for the authorities to arrive.

‘He safely subdued the thief using the fundamentals of Jiu-Jitsu, protecting himself and others without escalating the situation.

‘True self-defense looks like this.

‘Jiu-Jitsu’ has nothing to do with fighting. It’s about awareness, control and the ability to handle pressure when it matters most.’

The Daily Mail has approached South Wales Police for comment.
