Moment young mother, 19, is pushed by older boyfriend’s truck seconds before ‘she was murdered when she was crushed against lamppost’

Prosecutors say this is the moment the driver of a rescue truck pushed his teenage girlfriend across the road, using his vehicle ‘as a weapon’ before crashing into a lamppost.

CCTV showing the seconds before 19-year-old Lily Whitehouse was fatally crushed by a lamppost was released by police today along with the arrest of Mohammed Azim.

Audio of Azim’s 999 call, in which he claimed the teenager had been hit by a car driving away, was also released.

Azim is on trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court accused of murdering Miss Whitehouse on November 5 last year, just months after she gave birth to a premature baby fathered by another man.

The teenager, who had just arrived to visit her baby in the neonatal intensive care unit, suffered fatal chest injuries when she was allegedly hit by a lamppost by Azim’s Mercedes Sprinter on Old Park Lane in Oldbury, West Midlands.

Another clip released today shows Ms Whitehouse leaving Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley, West Midlands.

Last week jurors were told Azim, who worked as a rescue driver, picked her up in his truck to take her home but passed by the road where she lived.

Opening the case, prosecutor Rachel Brand KC said: ‘Why did he cross the road if he was going to take her home?’

‘We think the two were arguing. That’s why he passed by where he lived.’

CCTV from a nearby school captured the sound of Azim’s rescue truck idling just outside the camera’s field of view for around 16 minutes before the truck came into view and Miss Whitehouse was seen walking quickly along the road on the driver’s side.

“The defendant was driving the truck as if he was poking or pushing it across the road,” Ms Brand told the court.

‘Lily started running, the vehicle followed her at a low speed, but we still say she clearly used that large, heavy vehicle as a weapon.’

Mrs Whitehouse, who was only six feet tall and weighed less than seven and a half stone, was seriously injured.

Jurors were told that on Azim’s 41st birthday, he got out of the truck and ran along the road before following her in the vehicle and hitting her.

After Ms Whitehouse was injured, Azim, who has been in a relationship with her since 2023, allegedly picked her up and put her in his truck while she called 999.

The defendant told emergency services that he saw Ms Whitehouse hit by a vehicle that did not stop at the scene.

During the frantic 999 call, Azim is heard saying: ‘I need an ambulance, please… this is crazy… he’s bleeding, he got hit by a car and they left… they drove away.’

Ms Whitehouse had been in an on-and-off relationship since 2023.

When asked what happened to the call handler, Azim replied: ‘I don’t know if he was run over… he was crossing the road… In my truck, in my truck… Oh my god… it’s all messed up man.’

He stopped the truck on nearby Park Street and placed it on the pavement before emergency services arrived.

Police body-worn video footage captured Azim, with blood on his face, describing what type of car had hit Miss Whitehouse and comparing it to another vehicle on the road.

He told the cops: ‘My man was fast, I don’t know if that’s why he didn’t see it or if he didn’t see it. My god.”

The court was told Azim was arrested on suspicion of murder after paramedics and police deemed his story about the hit-and-run ‘bizarre’.

Before being handcuffed, Azim put his hands to his face while saying “I have never seen this man like him” in the back of the police car.

Prosecuting counsel, acting for the Crown, read extensive text messages exchanged between the defendant and Ms Whitehouse in the years before his death, in which Ms Whitehouse regularly begged Azim to see her and accused him of seeing other women.

Azim, of Tipton, West Midlands, denies murder.
