Monsoon tracker July 4 LIVE: IMD issues red alert in five districts in Odisha

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘red’ alert for very heavy to extremely heavy rains in five districts of Odisha on Saturday (July 4) as the low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has developed into a well-marked system, officials said.

A red alert has been issued for Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Sambalpur and Sonepur districts.

According to the latest bulletin issued by IMD, “The well-marked low pressure area over the northwestern Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coast persists over the same region at 08:30 IST today, 4 July 2026. It is very likely to move west-northwestward across north Odisha and north Chhattisgarh during the next 3 days.” “Red warning areas are expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places,” Bhubaneswar Meteorological Center Director Manorama Mohanty said, adding that rainfall activities in Odisha are likely to continue until July 7.
