Month-long Sanitation Drive in 300 Wards of GHMC Begins Today

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will launch its most ambitious cleanliness drive from December 29.
GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan said this is the first major cleansing drive after the last demarcation of wards which created 300 new wards.
In the statement made by Karnan, it was stated that between 29 December and 31 January 2026, the cleaning staff of the Authority will clean the overpasses, roads, overpasses, dividers and medians, parks and paths, lakes and nalas, transformers and electric poles in the new neighborhoods. The focus will be on eliminating legacy waste and garbage vulnerable points (GVPs).
This initiative includes removing debris from construction and demolition sites, green waste management and turning GVPs into selfie spots. Murals, rangoli and plantations will be discussed in GVPs to beautify places.
Cleaning staff will raise awareness about cleaning, e-waste, collection of reusable items, waste separation and composting in schools. Those who throw garbage in public areas, dump illegal garbage and urinate openly will be fined.
During the month-long cleaning work, abandoned scrap vehicles will be removed and old public toilets will be renovated. The GHMC commissioner directed the officials to submit daily ward reports along with supporting photographic documents. The purpose of private driving is to make the whole city look clean and beautiful.
