Morgan Rogers: Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso has ‘plan’ for record signing to play alongside Cole Palmer

Chelsea Manager Xabi Alonso says he has a “plan” to sign Morgan Rogers, alongside Cole Palmer for a record £117 million, to play for the club and believes the England international will make an “instant impact”.

The midfielder became the most expensive English player of all time when he moved from Aston Villa to Stamford Bridge last week.

While the 24-year-old player was on holiday after playing for England in the World Cup, Chelsea started their pre-season tour in Sydney.

“We needed a key player in this position and I’m sure there was no better option than Morgan Rogers,” Alonso said. he said.

“You need players who can make an impact almost immediately and I’m sure Morgan won’t need much time to adapt to the club, the system and his teammates,” Alonso said. he said.

“The idea was to get the best player and Morgan is one of them.”

Rogers signed a 6-year contract with Chelsea with an option for another year.

Despite not yet taking part in pre-season training, Alonso insisted he will be ready and believes he will be compatible with England international Palmer.

While the duo described each other as their “best friends in football,” Rogers said they would love to play together.

Alonso said about the duo: “I have a plan. I have an idea. I can see that there is a very good connection between them.”

“We need a good mix. If we get that balance right and have special players in the right positions, good control, then we will be more competitive with and without the ball.”
