Morrisons issues new statement as UK stores to close – message to customers | UK | News

Morrisons made a statement to customers after the news that two of its stores in England would close. The supermarket has confirmed the closure of two Daily stores at 168 Lytham Road in Blackpool; This will follow the July 12 closing of the store at 210 Central Drive.

The store on Central Drive closed July 12. A spokesman said Blackpool Gazette: “The performance of all company-owned stores in our Convenience business is subject to ongoing review. This process identified a number of stores that were part of the McColl’s acquisition, whose performance had been questioned for a number of years and were loss-making despite corrective measures.”

“After completing the review, we propose to make the difficult but necessary decision to close some of these stores over the next few months.”

A spokesperson for Morrisons said in May: “This situation has been exacerbated by significant cost increases resulting from Government policy choices in recent years which have made it more difficult to return these stores to profitability.

But Morrisons has stressed it still sees opportunities to open hundreds more franchise stores in the coming years, alongside new closure plans. He also insisted that the planned closures and targeting of new stores would “improve the quality of our suitable property and make it stronger overall”.

The retailer has also recently closed some of its cafes, convenience stores, florists and fresh food stalls as part of the shakeup that has led to hundreds of job losses. Morrisons has around 1,700 convenience stores and around 500 stores. supermarketsand employs approximately 95,000 personnel.
