Moscow rocked by bomb attack as man ‘sets off device’ at train station | World | News

Moscow was rocked by a deadly explosion on February 24, when a man allegedly detonated a bomb next to a police car. According to information obtained, the incident occurred a few minutes after midnight local time on Tuesday (Monday 21:06 GMT) near the Russian capital Savyolovsky train station.

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs said that two more officers were injured in the attack and their treatment was ongoing. Details of the attacker and the reason for the bomb attack have not yet been disclosed. According to the ministry, an attacker approached traffic police officers sitting in a patrol vehicle, and then the explosive detonated, killing the attacker and a police officer.

The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a case on charges of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and possession of illegal explosives.

According to Russia’s state-owned TASS news agency, the Investigative Committee said: “As a result of the attacker’s action, a traffic police officer died at the scene with injuries incompatible with life. Two more police officers were taken to the city hospital and provided medical assistance.”

This is not the first time Moscow has witnessed an attack. The latest bomb blast took place on the day marking the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

In December 2025, Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, who headed the training department of the Russian General Staff, was killed by a car bomb. Two days later, another explosion in the same part of Moscow killed three more people, including two police officers.
