Mother who gave birth to twins inside her partner’s BMW after her waters broke a week early says it was ‘better than being in hospital’

For many expectant mothers, giving birth in a car can be truly traumatic.

But Chloe Weston says she would do it all over again and it’s better than being in hospital.

The 28-year-old woman was caught off guard when her waters broke a week before her planned caesarean section and gave birth to twins in the front seat of her partner’s BMW. Miss Weston and her partner Adrian Bradbury were on their way to Burton Queen’s Hospital in Staffordshire but were stuck in traffic.

Mr Bradbury, 33, pulled over and 30 minutes after the contractions began, Ms Weston gave birth to sons Koah and Kyro, just a minute apart.

The newborn babies were wrapped in blankets donated by a stranger and taken to the hospital, where they stayed for a week.

The twins, now five months old, are thriving and Ms Weston says it has been her ‘easiest birth’. We also have six-year-old Jacob and two-year-old Leo.

She added: ‘I gave birth to one of the twins when we arrived to rent but he fell into the footwell.

‘It only took 30 minutes to give birth after my contractions started.

‘I caught them myself and held them to my chest.

‘I was in great shock. But it was a really easy birth, I was listening to my own body. It was a better experience compared to being in a hospital environment.’

At her appointment on November 14 last year, she was told her twins were breech and breech (feet forward and in side position) and she opted for a planned caesarean section a week later. However, her waters broke at 15.30 that day. Miss Weston and Mr Bradbury jumped in the car but got stuck in traffic on the A38 near Willington.

Left with no option but to push, Mrs Weston gave birth to Koah, weighing 6lb 4oz, as Mr Bradbury pulled the car over. He went outside and received assistance from nearby police officers; but when he returned, Kyro had arrived, weighing 5lb 2oz.

While they waited for an ambulance, a local person they called on Facebook to thank gave the couple pink blankets to keep their baby warm.

They stayed in the hospital for a week, and Kyro spent two days in intensive care due to low blood sugar.

Ms Weston said: ‘I was absolutely dreading it but the experience with the twins was completely different and almost the easiest. If I had another child I’d be happily in the car again.’
