Mumbai rain: Train services suspended after landslides, Mumbai-Pune Expressway shut; helplines issued

Train services between Mumbai and Pune have been suspended following landslides triggered by incessant rain in the Bhor Ghat section, the Central Railway said. It was also announced that train services between Karjat and Khopoli were suspended due to heavy rains causing ballast to wash out on the rails. Railway officials said the damage was identified by alert staff and restoration teams were mobilized to repair the affected section and restart services.

Road transport was also seriously affected. Traffic on the Pune-Mumbai highway of Khopoli-Kusgaon Missing Link was diverted following a landslide near the exit of Tunnel 2, officials said.
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Limited (MSRDC) has urged citizens to avoid traveling between Mumbai and Pune until further notice.
In a public notice, the company said that traffic movement on both the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the old Mumbai-Pune Expressway has been severely affected due to landslides and continuous heavy rainfall. It was added that traffic in both Mumbai-Pune and Pune-Mumbai directions was stopped until further notice.
MSRDC appealed to travelers to postpone all non-essential travel and comply with official traffic advisories issued by government agencies in the interest of public safety.
Meanwhile, suburban train services in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region remain largely unaffected. According to the Central Railway, local trains on all four corridors were running at 7 am. While Main Line services were 6-8 minutes behind schedule, Harbor Line trains were delayed by approximately 4 minutes. Services on Trans-Port and Uran-Belapur lines were operating as per schedule.
