Mumbai Weather Tomorrow July 9: IMD issues heavy rain alert; how long will the rainy spell continue? Check detailed forecast

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Yellow Alert for Mumbai and Thane on Thursday, July 9; Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, moderate rainfall and gusty winds are predicted in some parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Although the intensity of precipitation is expected to decrease compared to Wednesday’s widespread showers, residents can expect scattered showers and severe weather to continue throughout the day. Citizens were asked to be careful, especially in heavy rain and showers.

IMD weather forecast for Mumbai and Thane on July 9

According to IMD, the following will likely be experienced in Mumbai and Thane:

  • Heavy rain accompanied by lightning
  • Light to moderate rainfall, isolated heavy rainfall
  • Gusty winds during storm activity
  • The sky is cloudy during the day

Yellow Alert indicates the possibility of adverse weather conditions that may temporarily affect normal operations. People are advised to stay aware of official weather bulletins and exercise caution when travelling.

Rainfall is expected to decrease after Wednesday’s heavy rain

Following heavy to very heavy rains on Wednesday, IMD stated that rainfall activity in Mumbai and surrounding areas is expected to gradually decrease from July 9 onwards.


However, occasional heavy showers may occur in isolated areas, especially during thunderstorms. Cloudy weather is expected to continue throughout the region.

Storms and lightning may affect daily transportation

Even though rainfall intensity has decreased, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds may cause localized disruptions in Mumbai and Thane. Motorists are advised to drive carefully on slippery roads, while commuters are advised to allow extra travel time due to the possibility of temporary waterlogging and traffic slowing down during heavy downpours.

Sea conditions likely to remain rough

IMD has warned that despite the expected drop in rainfall, sea conditions along the Konkan coast may remain difficult. Fishermen are advised to follow the latest weather warnings before heading out to sea.

Residents living in low-lying or flood-prone areas should continue to exercise caution as isolated heavy showers may still cause brief flooding.

Meteorology called on citizens to take precautions due to heavy rain and heavy rain. Residents must:

  • Avoid standing under trees or near power poles during lightning.
