Musk’s xAI curbs Grok image editing after California, Europe air concerns

<span>STORY: Elon Musk’s xAI imposes image editing restrictions on all users of the Grok AI chatbot.</span><span>The artificial intelligence company made the announcement late on Wednesday, January 14.</span><span>It comes after concerns were raised over the service producing sexualized images.</span><span>From Europe to Asia, governments and regulators have cracked down on sexually explicit content produced by Grok.</span><span>They imposed bans and demanded protection.</span><span>xAI said in an X post that they implemented technological measures to prevent Grok from allowing images of real people in low-cut outfits to be edited.</span><span>He added that the restriction applies to all users, including paid subscribers.</span><span>Social media platform X has been flooded with hyper-realistic images of women manipulated to look like they’re wearing microscopic bikinis.</span><span>They were also shown in degrading poses or covered in bruises.</span><span>In some cases, minors were also digitally forced into swimsuits.</span><span>Billionaire Musk owns xAI, which in turn owns X, formerly known as Twitter.</span><span>California’s governor and attorney general said early Wednesday they were awaiting a response from xAI.</span><span>After Musk said he was not aware of any “underage nude photos” created by Grok.</span><span>British media regulator Ofcom said on Thursday that its formal investigation into X would continue through Grok.</span><span>Although he welcomes the company’s policy change.</span>
