N.J. bagel shop owner pocketed hundreds of thousands of dollars in sales taxes, authorities say

A Sussex County bagel shop owner faces criminal charges for allegedly failing to pay more than $200,000 in sales tax to New Jersey over a four-year period.
The State Attorney’s Office announced Thursday that Kristian Vozza, 48, of Sparta was indicted on March 25 on 21 charges, including second-degree theft for failure to make required disposition of property taken, four counts of third-degree failure to file a tax return and 16 counts of third-degree failure to fail to file collected taxes.
Authorities said Vozza failed to pay $205,336 in sales taxes to New Jersey from 2021 to 2024. It is alleged that he did not file taxes on behalf of his business during the same period. He owns Vozza Enterprises LLC, which does business as The Bagel Bistro.
“Taxes are essential to a government that provides for all citizens,” said State Attorney General Jennifer Davenport. “Paying taxes is not optional, and those who choose to ‘opt out’ will be held accountable and required to pay their fair share.”
The investigation into Vozza began in June 2025. No information on Vozza’s defense attorney was available as of Thursday.
