Nancy Guthrie case update: Three months after Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Arizona home, investigators are still searching for answers. A new development emerged when DNA evidence was sent to the FBI for further analysis. The mystery surrounding her disappearance continues to deepen as authorities say the case is ongoing. Despite intensive investigations, the identity of the kidnapper remains unknown.

What is the FBI’s new role in the investigation?

The case took a new turn when DNA samples collected from the crime scene were sent to the FBI. A private laboratory in Florida took an important step in the investigation by transferring the material for further analysis.
Officials with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to US Sun that the search is “active and ongoing.” They continue to work with federal agents as they process leads and review information.

“The Pima County Sheriff’s Department continues to work closely with the FBI as investigators follow leads, review information, and pursue the facts surrounding this case,” a spokesperson said, according to a report by The US Sun.

Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information and are asking people to contact their tip line if they have relevant details.
The development follows earlier concerns about the complexity of forensic evidence, which experts said could take weeks or even months to yield results.

What evidence was found at the scene?

Investigators have uncovered several key pieces of evidence since Guthrie went missing on Feb. 1.
A trail of blood was found in front of his house, with the back door left open. In addition to the forensic evidence examined, a glove containing a DNA profile was also seized. Authorities also collected a hair sample from the scene approximately 11 weeks into the investigation. But experts warned that analyzing such evidence could be a lengthy process. A retired FBI agent suggested that the blood sample could point to a single kidnapper, but authorities have not publicly confirmed that theory, according to a report by The US Sun.

Surveillance footage also played a role. A masked man was captured outside Guthrie’s home shortly after 2 a.m. on the night Guthrie disappeared. The person was seen to be armed, wearing gloves, carrying a backpack, and trying to interfere with the camera by tearing down plants and trying to block the view.

Earlier that night, Guthrie had been dropped off at home by his daughter, Annie Guthrie, and his son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni. Both were ruled out as suspicious. Investigators said the doorbell camera lost connection around 1:47 a.m., while the pacemaker lost connection at 2:28 a.m. His phone was later found at home.

Are ransom notes and past dates the key to solving the case?

The case was also complicated by the large number of ransom messages sent to media outlets.
Two letters sent to TMZ in early April contained conflicting information; one stated that Guthrie was dead, the other gave details about his alleged location and the identity of his kidnapper. According to TMZ founder Harvey Levin, the sender demanded half a bitcoin in exchange for this information.

Despite these messages, authorities have not confirmed whether the letters are reliable or linked to the kidnapping.

Guthrie’s family has made a public appeal for proof that he is alive. In a video message posted days after her disappearance, her son Camron Guthrie said, “We need to reach you, and we need a way to contact you so we can move forward. But first we need to know that you have our mother.”

Investigators are also examining events that may have occurred before the abduction. According to a report by The US Sun, Sheriff Chris Nanos had previously pointed to January 11 (21 days before Guthrie’s disappearance) as the date of interest based on the FBI’s analysis of digital evidence.

Officials are also reviewing another weekend date, Jan. 24, as they try to establish a pattern. USPA National Security Operations Director Brian Fitzgibbons suggested that these dates could help create a behavioral profile. Speaking on Nancy Grace’s Crime Stories podcast, he said, “All three of these are on weekend nights. It’s extremely evidentiary… He’s always doing this on weekend nights. Why?… It adds a tremendous amount of color behind the profile we’ve built on this suspect.”

Meanwhile, the investigation was also subject to criticism. A tipster told NewsNation that experienced homicide detectives were not included in the initial response, raising questions about how the case was handled in the first place.

Where does the investigation stand now?

Despite investigations and unanswered questions, authorities insist the case is far from cold. Law enforcement continues to follow leads, analyze evidence and coordinate with federal agencies. Although no timeline is given for results, the addition of FBI forensic analysis could provide new information.

For Guthrie’s family, the uncertainty remains the hardest part. As the investigation enters its fourth month, appeals for information continue, as does the hope that a breakthrough may finally emerge.
