In the national spotlight, 18-year-old Kai Trump, President Donald Trump’s eldest grandson, has had to deal with many critics and naysayers as he pursues his professional career in golf.

During a candid conversation with her aunt, future University of Miami golfer Lara Trump talked about how she dealt with those negative comments while focusing on her goals.

“I just stay away from it,” she responded during an interview with her aunt on “My Perspective on Lara Trump.” “It doesn’t really affect me because I don’t know, I know who I am. Honestly, it doesn’t really matter. People say whatever they want to say at the end of the day. I know what’s right and I know what kind of person I am. It doesn’t really matter.”

Kai made her LPGA Tour debut earlier this month at the ANNIKA at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida, and although things didn’t go exactly as planned, she was still pleased with the results in her first professional event.

“The first day, I’ve never been this nervous in my entire life. [Republican National Convention] While they were driving in the golf cart, Kai said to his aunt, “times 30.” “It was very frustrating. My nerves were gone, I played well the first day. Then the second day I went out there and said, ‘Okay, I don’t need to be mad anymore.’ My nerves weren’t that bad and I did really well. So it was a great experience. I’m grateful for the opportunity.”

The high school senior shot 83 shots in the first round and placed last among 108 players. However, he recovered with a score of over 75 on the second day. Unfortunately for Kai, that wasn’t enough to get into the weekend.

But the experience was invaluable to Kai, who will join the Miami Hurricanes golf team next year. During the interview, he explained why he chose Miami.

“I actually just came to the coaches. I love the program and I also didn’t want to be so far away from home because I love coming home,” he said. “I love Florida. So it comes down to the coaches. The school is great for academics and the team is great,” he said.

Kai’s performance on the LPGA Tour may not have been what she wanted, but LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau recently told Fox News Digital that he sees things differently.

“He hit five shots in the second round, which is really impressive,” he explained. “We didn’t know how he would turn out, he handled himself very well and what an opportunity it is.

“I was talking [tournament host] Annika [Sorenstam]. He’s part of the Sports, Fitness and Nutrition council and we were just talking about, ‘What do you think about this?’ We were both talking and this is a great opportunity. He said: ‘There are a lot of people who got invitations that weren’t worthwhile but it was a great experience for them. And I think it will be a great experience for him.’ It was amazing to see him go out there and compete doing what he loves to do and just keep getting better.”

Of course, Kai also loves the moments when he can spend time on the course with his grandfather. He described each of these tours as “very special” and looks forward to any time they can connect with their busy schedules.

But Kai remains determined and focused to get better every day to check off his goals one by one, starting with his next four years as a Hurricanes golfer.

“I’m going to go to college at the University of Miami for four years, play golf for them there. Then, if I get sponsor invites, I’ll go to an LPGA Tour event here and there if I can make those invites. Then, after college, I’m going to go pro — that’s the plan. Frankly, that’s a lot easier said than done,” she said.
