NCPA to Present ‘Timeless Melodies’ Celebrating Raga-Based Film Songs

The National Center for Performing Arts (NCPA) will present Timeless Melodies at the Jamshed Bhabha Theater on July 3, treating audiences to an evening exploring the connection between Hindustani classical ragas and some of the most iconic songs of Indian cinema.
The concert, which will start at 18.30, will feature raga-based film songs immortalized by legendary playback singers Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. The program aims to introduce viewers to the classical ragas that inspired these popular tunes and highlight the musical ideas behind them.
The performance will be led by playback singer Hrishikesh Ranade, vocalist Sharayu Date and their ensemble, and Amit Kakade will be the host of the evening.
Hrishikesh Ranade, son of famous Marathi singer Pramod Ranade, trained under Vijay Koparkar and Shekhar Kumbhojkar. He has established himself as a playback singer in Marathi, Hindi, Konkani and other Indian languages and has received many awards including the Maharashtra State Film Award, Filmfare Award and Zee Chitra Gaurav Puraskar.
Sharayu Date, who started her musical journey under the guidance of her mother, later took training from Arati Ankalikar-Tikekar and is currently a student of Dr Ashwini Bhide Deshpande. His repertoire includes Hindustani classical music, Marathi natyasangeet, ghazals, bhavgeet and bhaktigeet. He has also lent his voice to films and television serials and has performed extensively in India and abroad.
Suitable for audiences aged six and above, the two-hour presentation will offer listeners the opportunity to experience the enduring appeal of film music through the rich traditions of Hindustani classical music. Late check-in will not be allowed.
