New Zealand sprinter Eddie Osei-Nketia now has his heart set on representing Australia at major championships
New Zealand’s fastest man Eddie Osei-Nketia has officially changed his team in a move that could have huge ramifications for Australian sprinting.
Osei-Nketia, who broke her father Gus Nketia’s 100-meter national record with 10.08 seconds at the 2022 world championships in Eugene, Oregon, has not represented New Zealand for three years.

The 24-year-old currently lives in the United States but has long been a regular on the Australian domestic circuit.
Athletics Australia has devoted significant resources to its relay program in recent years, qualifying all five teams for the 2025 world championships in Tokyo.
This squad also included Osei-Nketia’s younger brother, Augustine Nketia, who competed in the 4x400m race.
The emergence of youth sensation Gout Gout and sub-10-second man Lachie Kennedy has boosted Australia’s prospects of medal contention in the men’s 4x100m relay at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and beyond.
Osei-Nketia will do his best and make a significant contribution to the team.
“Welcome, Edward Osei-Nketia,” AA shared on Instagram.
