Model Lauren Mochen accused her boyfriend and NHL player Arthur Kaliyev of defrauding her of tens of thousands of dollars to fund what she claimed was a rampant gambling addiction that also severely affected her teammates.

In an article written by New York Post Mochen, who reviewed messages, receipts, accounts and even an incident report, said Kaliyev defrauded her of $50,000 over the course of their three-year relationship. The model claimed on social media that Kaliyev used scare tactics, told her people would hurt her if she didn’t pay, suggested indirect ways to transfer her money to her accounts, and paid her back with fake checks.

The ordeal reportedly began in 2023, when Kaliyev told his then-21-year-old girlfriend that she had received a check from her parents because she had “accidentally” used her PayPal account to pay workers at her family’s shipping company.

According to his post on social media, Mochen had previously accepted Kaliyev’s suggestion to link his card to his PayPal account and transfer money through this account, after claiming that there were problems with his personal account.

The $400 check was reportedly deposited on his cell phone, but Kaliyev soon told Mochen that due to his family’s financial affairs, his personal bank account had been frozen and the money had to be returned.

She then asked him to repeat the process with additional checks from his family’s company, deposit them into his own account, and have the money sent to him digitally, according to the Post. Over the course of about a week, he handled several checks totaling $7,500 to the outlet, he said.

Mochen then sent the money back via Apple Cash, hoping it would refund him in full once his account was frozen. But when he checked his bank account a few days later, he was shocked to see a negative balance of $7,000.

The bank said, “You cashed three fake checks, who did they come from? Why did you do this?” said Mochen reminded The Post.

The bank told Mochel that all of the checks had bounced, but that Kaliyev had already paid $7,500 of his own money in addition to what he owed it, according to the report.

Mochen emphasized that while he transferred large amounts of money to Kaliyev, according to his social media posts, he repeatedly claimed that people would harm him and that he would pay back.

The Post added that Mochen noticed other financial behavior by Kaliyev. When she started discussing money with him, he switched to Snapchat, where the messages disappeared after 24 hours. Meanwhile, Mochen said Kaliyev created a separate PayPal account using his personal information and a different phone number, which allegedly led to the theft of an additional unknown amount that was not included in the $14,114.88 he claimed to have received from his original account.

Following Kaliyev’s problems with his checks and bank and their dissolution, Mochen filed an incident report at his hometown police station in Saginaw Township, Michigan, on September 4 to begin discussing accusations of Kaliyev’s alleged fraud with the financial institution.

Mochen isn’t the only person affected by Kaliyev’s allegedly disturbing money habits, the New York Post reported.
