Nick Faldo, a former PGA Tour star who won the Masters and Open Championship three times, turned Tiger Woods and the organization upside down after the legendary golfer was arrested for DUI.

Woods is charged in Florida over the wreck and for refusing to send a urine sample to law enforcement.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office released body camera footage earlier in the week that showed deputies removing two pills from Woods’ pants pocket and giving him a field sobriety test.

Faldo didn’t mince words when speaking to the media about Woods on Friday.

“There is a side that says, ‘Let’s pay attention to Tiger.’ … There must also be a side of responsibility and accountability,” he said. via Golf.com.

“You know, this is a serious thing he did. The PGA Tour’s statement was predictably weak, how they showed that the Tour would take care of him as it always does. And then Jack (Nicklaus) says it taints the whole sport. You have your naysayers, but there has to be some accountability.”

Faldo sympathized with Woods’ immense pain as he battled back and Achilles injuries. However, he argued that his injuries were “self-inflicted”.

“I feel bad for Tiger because he’s in pain 24/7. I asked him that years ago, even before the Los Angeles crash in 2021, but this was all self-inflicted,” Faldo continued. “The bottom line is I think something a little more serious needs to be done than sending him off to a tropical island and saying ‘Welcome back’ in three or four months.”

The PGA Tour has offered its support to Woods after the golfer pleaded not guilty to the accusations and vowed to “seek treatment” for the issues he is dealing with.

“Tiger Woods is a legend of our sport whose impact goes far beyond his accomplishments on the course,” the organization said. “But Tiger is a human being first and foremost, and our focus is on his health and well-being. Tiger continues to have our full support as he takes this important step.”

Faldo said the Tour must suffer “behind closed doors” for paying Woods millions and for him to be the center of negative attention.
