‘Nightmare’ for Prince Edward as ‘intimate’ stories set to be exposed | Royal | News

Prince Edward’s ex-girlfriend is likely to reveal “intimate insights” about their relationship in her upcoming memoir. Ruthie Henshall’s ‘The Showgirl and The Prince’ will document their on-and-off secret romance between 1988 and 1993.
Reports state that she was inspired to write the book after finding old love letters the Duke of Edinburgh had written to her during their five-year relationship. The royal commentator said: “If they are as open about their love as they are on TV, imagine what that could entail.”
During his stint on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Ruthie talked about Prince Edward to her campmates in 2020. She married Canadian singer Tim Howar in 2004. The couple, who had two daughters, divorced at the beginning of 2010.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said: Daily Mail: “There will be serious concerns that it will contain intimate information about their time together.”
He added: “This is likely to cause great concern at the Palace. The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are two of only four members of the Royal Family under the age of 70 and are doing invaluable work. They will now be drawn into the firing line at a time when the monarchy faces its most serious crisis since the 1990s.”
The potential revelations would come shortly after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office on his 66th birthday in February.
The Duke of Edinburgh and Ruthie’s relationship lasted from 1988 to 1993 after they crossed paths when Prince Edward, then 23, was working for Andrew Lloyd Webber.
he said Telegram: “I found my old diaries, which I started writing in the 1980s, and then all my letters from Prince Edward, and I realized how precious this time in my life was.”
“I was on the West End stage – it’s been my dream since I was a little girl – and shared love with a man very few people knew. If this was anyone else’s story, I’d think they were making it up. So here it is – a look behind the scenes at the crazy life in musical theatre, and what happens next when a showgirl falls in love with a prince.”
It is not known whether a preview of the book, which will be published in July, was given to Company members.
