Nimisha Priya Case: ‘Sentencing Postponed,’ Says MEA, Urges To Avoid Misinformation | India News

On Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Nimisha Priya’s execution was postponed in Yemen, and also called on the people to prevent the wrong information and wait for an official update.
Priya, an Indian citizen and a nurse from Kerala, faces a death penalty in Yemen after being convicted of murder.
During the weekly briefing, Mea spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said that the issue was sensitive and Nimisha Priya’s sentence was postponed as a result of the efforts of the Indian government.
Answering a question about Nimisha Priya’s punishment, Mea spokesman said the government worked closely with local authorities and provided all possible help to Priya and her family.
“This is a delicate issue. The Indian government is expanding all possible aids in the case. As a result of our permanent efforts, the penalty has been postponed. We continue to follow the issue closely and provide all possible help.”

The execution was initially planned on July 16, but was postponed after diplomatic interventions and negotiations led by the Indian government.
Jaiswal announced that the reports claiming that the death penalty was completely overthrown. “We are in contact with some friendly governments on the subject … Reports claiming that some developments are wrong. Please wait for an update from us. We want all parties to stay away from wrong information.” He said.
Nimisha Priya case
Nimisha Priya, a 37 -year -old nurse from Kerala, was convicted of killing business partner Talal Abdo Mahdi in 2017. In November 2023, he was sentenced to the Supreme Judicial Council of Yemen in November 2023.
On July 17, the MEA spokesman reported that the Indian government appointed Nimisha Priya’s family to assist in the legal process in the legal process, under the law of the Sharia law.
The government also organized regular consular visits and continues to interact with local authorities and other nations to find a positive solution.
