Nine killed as van carrying Malappuram schoolteachers plunges off Valparai cliff

Nine members of a 12-member travel group from Pang in Kuruva panchayat in Malappuram district died when their minibus fell off a cliff at Valparai in Tamil Nadu on Friday afternoon.
The remaining members of the group were taken to hospitals with injuries. Three of the critically injured were shifted from Pollachi to a hospital in Coimbatore for further treatment. It was reported that the minibus fell off the sharp bend number 13 and rolled onto curve number 9. It was stated that seven of the dead were women.
