Nine people injured in mass shooting near England’s World Cup base in Kansas City

World Cup preparations have been rocked by a major security scare after nine people were injured in a shooting just a short drive from England’s tournament training base.

Police were called to an incident on Troost Boulevard in Kansas City around 4 a.m. Saturday and launched a major emergency response to the area.

The Kansas City Police Department confirmed that officers who arrived at the scene after gunshots were heard saw a large crowd dispersed.

Three adult females injured at the scene were immediately taken to a local hospital by the emergency department. It was later revealed that a total of nine adults went to various local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

No suspects are currently in custody, but law enforcement continues to heavily patrol the area as the investigation into the shooting continues.

Troost Avenue is just four miles from the England team’s training base and team hotel, where they will be based in the early stages of the World Cup.

Local resident Kate Fowler, who lives a short distance off Troost Boulevard, described waking up to find a bullet hole in the front of their home and a stray bullet in their living room. He shared images of the bullet casing and damage on Facebook.

This week, the Kansas City Board of Police Commissioners accepted a $17 million federal grant for World Cup safety and security, according to KCTV5.

‘We thought the source of funding would come eventually.’

“When almost anyone can walk around with a firearm, especially a high-capacity weapon, I think the threats that people face are frankly amplified,” the Democrat said.

‘As for the VIPs, they will be the safest people in this city, in this country, not only with their own security team, but also with their increased security with the help of local law enforcement.’
