A man has been convicted and sentenced to eight years in prison for killing his wife by jumping from a road bridge following a domestic violence campaign.
Kimberley Milne, 28, died after being struck by vehicles as she jumped onto the A90 in Dundee on July 27, 2023.
She had been abused for 18 months by her husband Lee Milne, 40, who was found guilty of her death at the High Court in Glasgow in March.
Jailing Milne at the same court on Friday, Lady Drummond also gave him a three-year extended prison sentence, meaning he will be on license upon his release.
In a victim impact statement from her family, the court heard Ms Milne was “a much-loved daughter, sister and aunt and they were devastated by her death”.
The judge said: “Nothing I could do or say could bring him back or ease his suffering.”
The Milne case is the first of its kind in Scotland.
He was found guilty of premeditated murder and ill-treatment of his wife.
In the hours before his death, Milne had acted in an aggressive and intimidating manner towards him.
This included erratic driving, yelling at her, and grabbing at her while in the car with her; which placed him in a state of significant fear, distress and alarm.
Milne, from Dundee, was also found guilty of a number of domestic violence offenses committed against Ms Milne between January 2022 and July 2023.
These included physically and verbally abusing her, forcing her to move in with him and marry him, trying to cut off contact with her friends and family, and controlling her finances.
On one occasion in November 2022, Milne became angry when his wife asked to be taken home and he hit her, causing her to fall and hit her head on the wall, losing consciousness.
In one incident in May the following year, Milne grabbed her by the throat, choked her and screamed at her when she asked to be taken home, causing her to run into another room and barricade herself with a table.
After forcing himself inside, he repeatedly punched her, bit her, and threatened to hit her with a mirror before throwing her against the wall.
