Devshayani Ekadashi 2025 Vrat: Date, time, spiritual significance, puja steps & what to avoid during Chaturmas

Devshayani Ekadashi, also known as Ekadashi, Padma Ekadashi or Hari Shayani Ekadashi, is a sacred day in the Hindu calendar. It will be observed on Sunday, July 6 in 2025. This particular Ekadashi falls to Shukla Paksha (the network of the moon) in Ashadha, and points to the beginning of Chaturmas, a four -month sacred period in which Lord Vishnu is believed to be resting in the cosmic ocean.

What happens in Devshayani Ekadashi?

Today, it is believed that Lord Vishnu has entered a divine sleep in Ksheer Sagar’s Seshnag’s snake bed. He wakes up after four months in the giant Uhani Ekadashi (Prabodhini Ekadashi) who came in the month of Kartic. During this period, auspicious activities such as weddings, households and yarn ceremonies are avoided.

Notes: Parace should be done in dwadashi in the tithi. Avoid breaking fasting during Hari Vasara (the first quarter of Dwadashi). Early in the morning is considered ideal.

How to observe Devshayani Ekadashi Vrat (Puja Vidhi)

• Start the day with an early bath and clean your prayer area.
• Place a Lord Vishnu’s idol or image, especially in the form of extended.
• Tulsi leaves, yellow flowers, sandalwood paste and panchamrit (milk, ghee, honey, curley and sugar mixture).
• Read Zikir Vishnu Sahasranam, Bhagavad Gita verses or listen to Ekadashi Vrat Katha.
• Observe fast, depending on your health and capacity, you can only choose a solid water fast or choose fruits.
• Break fast the next morning.

Devshayani Ekadashi Fasting Variations

Devshayani Ekadashi fast is sometimes observed for two days:

• Smarta Ekadashi (first day) – then the landlords.
• Vaishnava ekadashi (second day) – Widows, monks and salvation observed on a spiritual path seeking.
