Norway fans perform viral Viking row on Boston escalator at World Cup

Crowds of Norwegian fans are flocking to Boston to draw on their Viking heritage to see their country qualify for the World Cup for the first time in 28 years. They also attract locals with their synchronized “Viking rows”.

A video shot at Boston’s South Station showed dozens of Norwegian fans, some wearing Viking helmets and draped in Norwegian flags, performing synchronized rowing movements.

The group chants “Hoo! Hoo!” he chanted. As the Viking walks up the escalator, imitating the tall ship crew.

Jeremy Siegel, a journalist at WGBH in Boston, released the footage and wrote that the performance was unlike anything he had ever seen.

“I’m adding this to the list of things I’ve never seen before and probably will never see again,” he said.

The impromptu show quickly won over online audiences.

One person wrote to X: “My usual train journey suddenly feels incredibly boring compared to this.”

“This is the most Norwegian thing I’ve ever seen.”

“I’ve seen fans sing, dance and lose their minds in stadiums, but rowing a Viking ship up an escalator wasn’t on my 2026 bingo card,” chimed in another.

A third user X said: “This is the most Norwegian thing I’ve ever seen.”

But not everyone was focused on the show.

Some viewers expressed concerns about the escalator’s performance.

“I really wonder how they keep their capes and flags from getting caught in the escalator gears.”

Boston also saw an influx of Scottish tourists following the country’s 1-0 win over Haiti on Sunday.
