Video of woman alleging naked man sitting in car harassed her prompts Bengaluru police to register suo motu case

A day after a video of a woman in Bengaluru claiming a ‘completely naked’ man in a car sexually assaulting her went viral on social media, the Hebbagodi police lodged a complaint. suo motu The case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

In the video shared on her Instagram account, the woman claimed that while she was returning home from work, a man sitting in the car, completely undressed, repeatedly called out to her and allegedly drove the vehicle towards her in a threatening manner. In the video, the woman can be heard calling for help and accusing passersby of ignoring her distress. He also claimed that some people simply smiled and walked away, assuming the incident was part of a news story on social media.

Superintendent of Police Rushabhendra of Hebbagodi Police Station lodged the complaint after coming across the video while watching social media platforms. In her complaint, she stated that the video clearly shows the woman accusing a man in the car of sexually assaulting her while she was naked.

Based on the complaint, the police registered a case of sexual harassment under BNS on January 25. Efforts are continuing to capture the suspect using security camera footage taken from the area where the incident allegedly occurred and its surroundings. Police are also trying to find the woman to record her statement.
