Amid the infighting against Muslim leaders within the Congress, which one section fears will threaten the party’s voter base, another section appears to believe the action is necessary and that a “misleading campaign” is being run to portray the grand old party as acting against the minority community.
The Congress has been facing factionalism among Muslim leaders following by-polls in Davangere South Assembly constituency in which the party failed to field a Muslim candidate despite pressure from community leaders. So far, three-time MLC Abdul Jabbar has been suspended from office on charges of anti-party activities, while the Prime Minister’s political secretary, Naseer Ahmed, has been sacked. But it remains MLC.
