BSNL to shut down 3G, end legacy vendor contracts for better 4G

According to its annual report for FY25, BSNL has 58,919 3G sites out of total 229,278 tower sites across the country as of March-end. According to the report, the company provides service to approximately 5,863 districts and cities under 3G. As of the end of September, BSNL had a total of 92.2 million mobile subscribers, according to data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. According to the government’s statement in September, 22 million of them use 4G, while the remaining users use 2G and 3G. Notably, the majority of the remaining users are using 2G, which remains the mainstay of BSNL and is expected to continue with newer technologies.
