NSW Police charge Corum Ash with murder after allegedly bashing elderly man on morning walk
A father of six in Sydney died in hospital after allegedly being beaten during his morning walk while another man accused of murder was preparing to appear in court.
Corum Anthony Ash, 45, will appear in Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday after being arrested on Monday night following a public appeal from police.
Police allege Ash attacked a 74-year-old man as he went for a morning walk in Sydney’s southwest on Saturday morning.
The man was found unconscious in Orchardleigh Street, Yennora, at around 4.40am and was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.
Police were notified of his death on Monday. The man was identified as a local father of six.
Ash is charged with murder and causing injury or grievous bodily harm with intent to murder.
Investigators were unable to speak to the 74-year-old man at the hospital due to his condition, but after examining the scene on Sunday, they identified Ash as the suspected perpetrator.
Police raided a property in Carlingford on Sunday afternoon and seized a number of items believed to be linked to the incident. A call was made to locate Ash before his arrest at the same address on Monday night.
He was denied bail by police to appear in court on Tuesday.
