Major airline that flies from Heathrow cancels flights in May | UK | News

A major airline operating at London Heathrow is preparing to significantly reduce its flight schedule as rising energy costs start to bite.

Thai Airways International has notified ticket agents that it will cancel flights and reduce frequencies on both domestic and international routes across Asia and Europe in May 2026. A total of 46 services were affected.

The tariff change comes at a time when fuel prices are rising worldwide due to the ongoing conflict in Iran. The United States and Israel have launched joint attacks on several key Iranian targets since the start of hostilities on February 28. Although a short-term ceasefire currently exists, a permanent peace agreement has not yet been reached.

Iran responded by striking targets in the Middle East and closing the vital Strait of Hormuz trade route.

The United States has since imposed a blockade of Iranian ports within the strait in an attempt to end the closure and advance negotiations.

About 20 percent of global oil trade passes through the Strait of Hormuz, and its closure sent shock waves through international oil markets, sending fuel prices sharply higher.

According to The Nation, Thai Airways cited rising oil costs and weakening passenger demand during the low tourist season as key factors behind the decision.

The airline confirmed that alternative arrangements have been put in place to support agents and passengers.
