Former First Lady Michelle Obama appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” He revealed on his program that the Obamas were planned to meet with Rob Reiner and his wife Michele on the night they were killed. On Monday.
Michelle Obama said she and her husband, former President Barack Obama, were close friends with the late couple, describing them as “some of the most decent, courageous people you’d ever want to know.”
“Oh my God. We’ve known them for so many years and we were supposed to see them that night, last night. And we got the news,” he said.
“And let me just say this: Unlike some people, Rob and Michele Reiner are some of the most decent and courageous people you will ever want to meet,” he continued.

“They’re not; they’re not unstable or crazy,” the former first lady added, in what appeared to be a barb at President Donald Trump. “They were always passionate people at a time when there wasn’t a lot of courage.”

On Monday, Trump called Rob Reiner “a tortured and struggling, but once very talented film director and comedy star” and suggested — without evidence — that he died “because of the anger he caused others” from what Trump described as “Trump derangement syndrome.”
Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Reiner, 68, were found stabbed to death in their Los Angeles home on Sunday. Their son, Nick Reiner, was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with their deaths, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The amount, previously set at $4 million, is being held without bail.
Michelle Obama said the Reiners were “the kind of people who are willing to put their actions behind what they care about.”

“And they care about their families, they care about this country, they care about justice and equality,” he said. “And that’s the truth. I know them.”
Earlier Tuesday, former President Barack Obama released a statement expressing his condolences over the couple’s deaths.

Obama wrote that he and Michelle were “heartbroken over the tragic death of Rob Reiner and his beloved wife, Michele.”
“Rob’s achievements in film and television have given us some of our most treasured stories on the big screen,” he said. “But beneath all the stories he produced was a deep belief in the goodness of people and a lifelong commitment to putting that belief into action. Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose. They will be remembered for the values they stood for and the countless people they inspired. We send our deepest condolences to all who loved them.”
