Odisha Inks Rs 2,100 Crore Pact With JSW for Captive Jetty at Jatadhari

BHUBANESWAR: In a major edition to support the sea infrastructure and industrial logistics in Odisha, the State Government signed a concession agreement with JSW Utkal Steel Limited to develop a captive scaffold in Jagatsinghpur region.

The project, which requires an RS investment of 2,100, points to a strategic addition to the state’s growth agenda, led by port.

The agreement was officialized in Lok Seva Bhawan in the presence of Prime Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who described the project as a “transformational initiative for Odisha’s coastal economy and industrial ecosystem.

The proposed scaffold, which will be located in the mouth of the Jatadhari River in Erasama Collection, will have the capacity of 52 million metric tons of cargo per year. First of all, it is designed to provide logistics needs of JSW’s upcoming integrated steel factory and associated industrial operations in the region. In addition, the facility is expected to catalyze more than 3,450 direct and indirect business projects and auxiliary trade and employment opportunities.

“The Odisha government is determined to unlock the economic potential of the coastline by partnership with the private sector in the development of the new generation of ports and logistics infrastructure,” Prime Minister Majhi said. “Such projects will be very important in positioning Odisha as an important maritime and industrial center on the eastern coast.”

The Prime Minister also summarized the government’s wider maritime development road map and demonstrated four more ports aimed at centralization of industrial activity and improving the regional connection. Two new ports were proposed in Bahuda in Inchudi and Gangam in the Balasore region, and construction works are continuing in Subarnarekha and Astaranga ports.

These initiatives are part of Odisha’s integrated port development strategy, which envisages aligning with special industrial corridors supported by upcoming ports and railway connections. Authorities said that the target is to create a smooth multimodal logistics ecosystem that supports large -scale industrialization and trade facilitation throughout the state.

Industrial observers see this last agreement with JSW as a target of the growing charm of Odisha as a target for capital -intensive, port -dependent industrial projects, especially in steel, minerals and petrochemical sectors.
