Off-duty cop clocked at 200km/h in alleged street race

An off-duty NSW Police officer allegedly reached speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour during an illegal street race; this was more than 120 kilometers over the limit.

Police said they found the 22-year-old man was speeding at more than twice the speed limit in an 80km/h zone on Camden Valley Way in Sydney’s south-west on Monday night.

Roadside drug and alcohol tests both returned negative results.

The police officer’s license was suspended and he was charged with organizing, supporting or participating in a race, driving dangerously and exceeding the speed limit by more than 45 km per hour.

Police said in a statement that the employment status of the police officer attached to the South West Metropolitan Region command will be reviewed.

He will appear before Picton Local Court on July 23.
